News 2008

Updated: Nov 21

And even more OCTOBER, 2008 - what a month!

Well, this is not good news for Australians, but the Australian dollar has dived 35% in the last few weeks which means that automatically costs have increased by 35%. We unfortunately have been forced to put our prices up 35% to counter the loss. Effective 13/10/08: All NEW Australian and New Zealand stock (scheduled for Christmas/New Year) will be priced 35% higher than previous list prices. We are deeply sorry, but we have ZERO choice in the matter. SPECIAL NOTE: Those of you who have already pre-ordered or been put on waitlist for the Christmas/New Year stock will NOT be charged the new prices. Prices of existing stock are not affected. Europe and USA are unaffected by this and European and US prices remain the same as listed in the 2008 Catalog.

Still more OCTOBER, 2008.

Here it is, the Gaskell "Firestarter" ... a beautiful guitar made with mahogany and maple with rosewood fingerboard, and what a colour! Wow! Makes me want to have a glass of red! Cherry Firestarters will be in at the end of the year!

OCTOBER, 2008

Production delays caused by the crazy situation with the world economy have slowed things down but we are still going forward. Fingers crossed that we experience Christmas at Christmas time this year!

OCTOBER, 2008.

We are not going to retain the banjo tuners of the Gaskell Firestarter. This system is actually quite poorly designed and after a bit of use they tend to break. This is a flaw in the original design, not ours. We cannot warranty these tuners. To get over this issue, the Firestarter will still have the reverse headstock but will use standard tuners.

OCTOBER, 2008.

With the U.S economy going belly-up the effect this is having on the rest of the world, including here in Australia, is that business seems to be stuck in some sort of  "freeze frame." We are hoping this does not affect our deadlines and timetables as we have new stock scheduled for Christmas and the last thing anyone needs is to have everything arrive after the event!

SEPTEMBER, 2008.

We have put up a FAQ linkable from the ABOUT US page. This is a composition of answers to commonly asked questions over the last 2 years.

SEPTEMBER, 2008.

Just a quick note to say that we have done a little bit of work to the Gaskell catalog - added some nice pics of the Classic II (lefty Explorer) and Sage (lefty headless.) We will add the new models I am releasing into the catalog soon, as time permits. It's busier now, both here in Australia and USA, especially since we are now offering the Gaskell Firestarter (lefty Firebird.)

AUGUST, 2008.

Well done to all involved with the photoshoot 23/8/08. Great work! Thanks again to Sydney model and actress Sarah Balkham for doing such a wonderful job, and this time to Jennelia Quek, our Make Up artist for the shoot. A big thank you goes out to Virginia for stretching her skills even more and directing the shoot and organizing all the logistics. Great job everyone! We have a bit of work to do on the website and catalog now including the CLASSIC MARK II specs etc which we shot in this shoot. Will be up soon.

AUGUST, 2008 - There be left handed Firebirds!

You may have noticed the appearance of a new model on our website this month ... Gaskell Guitars is very proud (and relieved) to announce that we are now offering a left handed Firebird guitar. We have called our version the FIRESTARTER. In the months ahead we will be releasing it in all it's original colours to match it's right handed inspiration, starting with CHERRY. We know many of you left handed guitarists around the world have always wanted this guitar. Now you can have it.

AUGUST, 2008.

Some bad news: Our latest shipment of guitars returning from the factory suffered some transportation damage. All the insurance in the world does not change the fact that replacement guitars cannot be magically plucked from a tree! Some of the guitars have to be remanufactured. We don't make a lot of guitars at a time so this impacts on us greater than it would on the "big brands." Many in this shipment were Classic PRO's, custom made to customer's specifications. We will inform all of you soon if any of your guitars were damaged. The fault this time was at the Australian end at the Ports.

AUGUST, 2008. For some reason the Australian dollar this month is plummeting, both against the USD and the Euro. All very sudden. Perhaps the powers that be don't want us Australians to benefit from the recent drop in the price of Oil - ??? Anyway, for Europeans now is the time to buy the Gaskell guitar you have had your eye on while the exchange rate is in your favour! The Classic, for example, is a whole EUR 33.00 less this month due to exchange rate alone!

JUNE, 2008.

A common question we get asked is "what's different/the same between the Gaskell Classic and the Gibson/Epiphone Explorer?" To answer this, we have put together a "facts sheet" comparing the Gaskell Classic with the Epiphone Explorer. We hope this will also do the job for anyone interested in comparisons to the Hamer and/or Dean Explorers as well.

JUNE, 2008.

Gaskell Guitars has just purchased the rights, under license, to retrofit and factory equip our guitars with the patented BUZZ FEITEN TUNING SYSTEM which is a "coming of age" for the guitar as a musical instrument, regarding tuning and intonation. Washburn Guitars in the USA is a major guitar manufacturer that uses the BFTS on all their U.S guitars and basses. Here's something about the BFTS (from the Washburn USA site) "The Buzz Feiten Tuning System.
